Acupuncture Treatment Modalities
As you may know, Brittian Chiropractic Center offers acupuncture as a complement to other natural healing techniques such as chiropractic adjustment. What you might not realize, however, is how many acupuncture modalities can be put to work toward your health and wellness goals. Take a look at some of the most common acupuncture modalities and their benefits.
Standard Acupuncture
This modality involves the placement of hair-fine needles at strategic points on the body. Traditional Chinese Medicine holds that these points alter the flow of life energy along imaginary pathways called meridians. Scientists believe that the needles alter nerve conduction and release pain relievers called endorphins.
Chiropractic Solutions for Acupuncture
Acupuncture modalities can be put to work toward your health and wellness goals. Take a look at some of the most common acupuncture modalities and their benefits.
Electroacupuncture
Electroacupuncture works on the same basic principles as standard acupuncture, only with electrodes attached to the needles. The electrical current enhances the power of the treatment while reducing fatigue in the hand of the practitioner.
Ear Acupuncture
Specific acupuncture points on the ears can ease a wide range of health conditions and symptoms, from irritable bowel syndrome to neurological and hormonal imbalances.
Moxibustion
In moxibustion, our chiropractic team places an herbal compound called moxa along with various acupuncture points. As the moxa is heated, it eases pain and helps the body release pathogens. You should feel only a pleasant warmth during the procedure.
Fire Cupping
Fire cupping involves the use of vacuum pressure over acupuncture points. Glass cups are placed on these points and then heated to create this pressure, which raises and reddens the skin beneath the cups. Fire cupping boosts circulation, relaxes muscles, and releases scar tissue.
Tui Na Massage
Tui Na translates as “Push and Grasp.” This combination of massage stretches, and other physical manipulation roll and rub against myofascial tissues. Tui Na can relieve musculoskeletal pain and improve your range of motion.
Gua Sha
Gua Sha employs rubbing and scraping techniques using instruments made from jade, soapstone, or other materials. The scraping action temporarily leaves red marks on the skin, but it also breaks up scar tissue, reduces swelling, and improves blood flow at the treatment site.
